May 2019 on a small river
The peculiarity of fishing in May 2019. The rise to spawn. Chance to catch a chub. Spawning ban.
First of all, the feature of May in 2019 can be called the abundance of vipers. These black creatures are creeping out from under their feet, hissing and, it seems, are not averse to attack, make one more extra move in the direction of the snake. How many can remember, so many of these reptiles of the color of the blued metal were never on the banks of Big Kokshagi. Obviously, their mass appearance is associated with almost summer heat, which anomalously quickly became established already in May. Moreover, the air temperature reaches 27-29 degrees, which for this time can not be called an ordinary temperature. Apparently, the snakes crawled out to bask and indulge in love, since the mating period they fall on May, and the vipers are not very happy about the mass appearance of tourists, tourists and fishermen on the river. Judging by the black color, it is Nikolsky’s viper.
Early and stable heat was the cause of the cessation of activity of burbot, because the water temperature in the river is no longer suitable for cold-loving night-predator, although it seems to us that the water is still ice when you wash your face in the river in the morning. But the burbot knows better what water temperature he needs in order to have an appetite and lift vitality. Apparently, he had already climbed into the bottom holes and under the snag-snag so that there, in the cold, to wait until late autumn the summer heat and warm water. On the night from the seventh to the eighth of May there was not a single exit of burbot to the catchment, although the other predator still came to other colder springs at that time.
The spawning ban, of course, does not give the angler life, and it seems meaningless, at least in places where there are no spawning grounds. Two days before our eyes, some predators hunted eagerly and loudly, chasing the toptop. There would be spinning with wobblers. Why it is impossible to catch spinning at least from the shore? It seems that the laws are written by officials who are absolutely indifferent to the aspirations and needs of the Russian people, because they themselves do not comply with the laws and live in socialism, which we have built for everyone, and built for deputies and civil servants. Norway, Sweden and Finland built capitalism, and for some reason, they left socialism with a human face, where people live richly and can even catch with nets, simply observing the norms and not arranging garbage dumps in forests and near water bodies.
Rise to spawn
Judging by the results of fishing on the eve of Victory Day, although there is no massive roach on the Great Kokschag for spawning, as happens on Rootka, a rather weighty roach with caviar comes across (read the report). The males are rough, in “warts” and “acne”, which speaks of their marriage dress. So the fish is still spawning. Maybe this is a local roach, not a Volga, as there are no fish per pound weighing, at least, such fish did not come across here. As with other fishermen, we do not know, because we had no neighbors on those holidays. Only in the morning, when they were looking for a place for fishing, they met an angler, who said that on the spot where he had settled down to rest with his family, only small roaches were eating.
Roach May on a small river
Chance to catch a chub
Probably, there was a chance to catch a chub at night for a worm and live bait, since one chub took on a donk in the early-early morning. If we had one more night, we wouldn’t necessarily sleep, but we checked the probability of the chub’s night bite. During the day, there was no poklyovka even the smallest chub. At dawn, the chub grabbed the hook with a creep on it. It seems that these giant and gentle worms are the best spring bait for chub, burbot and other large fish. Probably, minnows could compete with crawls as the best bait on the chub, but we didn’t see these fish on the sandbank where we caught donkeys. Places at first glance are classic for the habitat of minnows. Apparently, the time has not come yet for these gentle and nimble baleen fishes.
Small perch were noticed while hunting for a toptop in a coastal rather deep puddle, still connecting to the river with a small stream channel. Inspired by such a hunt, these striped predators may miss the moment when the duct dries out and the fish remain in the pool. This happens on the shores of Bolshaya Kokshagi, when in such pools, usually more extensive and deeper, the locals catch in the summer with nonsense not only crucian carp, but also roaches, perches and shur.
The time of the bream is coming, and we are already preparing for real fishing.
